Après un an de recherches pour trouver un port d’attache, L’Abominable quitte La Courneuve et prend la direction d’Épinay-sur-Seine pour amarrer son Navire Argo sur le site des anciens laboratoires Éclair. Quelle destinée incroyable !
Pour que ce conservatoire vivant, à la fois lieu de création, de transmission et de partage voit le jour, l’association L’Abominable a plus que jamais besoin de votre soutien, car il nous faut trouver des financements importants pour la réhabilitation des locaux.
Le Navire Argo à Éclair, une histoire du cinéma
Lieu emblématique de l’industrie du cinéma en France, les laboratoires Éclair ont développé, truqué et tiré tout au long du XXe siècle une grande partie des films destinés au marché français. Aujourd’hui, le site de 4,5 hectares doit devenir un grand quartier culturel au cœur de la ville, et le Navire Argo s’y installe sur 1 200 m2 de bâti. La partie laboratoire occupera l’endroit même où se faisait le développement des négatifs, et nous rendrons publique une des salles de projection qui servait à l’étalonnage.
En échange de la prise en charge de la réhabilitation des locaux qui nous concernent, la Ville d’Épinay-sur-Seine s’est engagée à en céder l’usage à notre association sur le long terme.
Après vingt-cinq ans de collectage de machines, de leur mise à disposition à des cinéastes, et d’expérience acquise, s’ouvre la perspective d’une implantation pérenne pour réaliser le Navire Argo, un grand lieu tout entier dédié aux pratiques contemporaines et futures du cinéma argentique.
Le projet de réhabilitation à Éclair
Une première étude a permis d’estimer la faisabilité du projet et de chiffrer le montant des travaux de réhabilitation à 2,4 millions d’euros, principalement pour la rénovation énergétique du bâtiment, son adaptation à nos usages et la mise en conformité des espaces pour l’accès du public. A la suite de cette réhabilitation, les cinéastes de l’association prendront en charge l’aménagement des locaux, ainsi que l’implantation et la mise en route des machines.

Nous sommes sur le pont pour que la majorité de l’investissement nécessaire provienne de fonds publics.
Néanmoins, nous savons que nous aurons besoin d’apporter une part non négligeable de fonds propres et nous nous sommes fixés l’objectif de lever 500 000 € dans les mois qui viennent, en combinant les apports de dons privés, de mécènes et de fondations.
Appel à dons et au mécénat pour le Navire Argo
Pour nous aider à atteindre ce montant, L’Abominable s’est associé au fonds de dotation culturel Artutti, ce qui a notamment pour effet de rendre défiscalisables les dons des personnes et des entreprises.
Si vous payez des impôts en France, votre don sera déductible à hauteur de 66% de vos impôts, dans la limite de 20% de votre revenu imposable.
Cela signifie que si vous donnez 1000€, vous pourrez déduire 660€ de vos impôts ! Et donc que votre contribution au Navire Argo vous aura coûté 340€.
Si vous représentez une entreprise, votre don permet de bénéficier d’une réduction d’impôt sur les sociétés de 60% du montant des versements, plafonnée à 20 000€ ou 5 ‰ du chiffre d’affaires de l’entreprise.

Our sails are set for the Northwest of Paris!
After a year of looking for a new home, L’Abominable is leaving La Courneuve. We will dock Navire Argo in Épinay-sur-Seine, in the Paris region, on the site of the former Éclair film laboratory. We couldn’t have hoped for a better location!
Navire Argo at Eclair: A History of Cinema
The Éclair film laboratory holds an iconic status for the French film industry. Over the course of the 20th century, this film lab was responsible for developing, printing, and creating effects for a large portion of films for the French market. The industrial complex spanning 10 acres is now being transformed into a cultural district in the heart of the city of Épinay-sur-Seine. We will set up Navire Argo in a 1,200 m2 space located in the very building where camera negatives were once developed. One of the screening rooms, initially dedicated to color grading, will be also opened to the public.
In exchange for the renovations we will carry out, the local government of Épinay-sur-Seine has agreed to put the space at our disposal on a long-term basis, free of charge.
After twenty-five years of collecting machines and making them available to filmmakers, and all the experience gained through this endeavor, our project of finding a permanent location for creating Navire Argo – a vast space entirely dedicated to contemporary and future photochemical film practices – is becoming a reality.
The Éclair Renovation Project
To help this living conservatory of cinematographic creation, training, and exhibition see the light of day, L’Abominable needs your support more than ever. We must secure significant funding in order to renovate the building.
An initial study has allowed us to determine the feasibility of the project and to produce an estimate of 2.4 million euros for the necessary renovation work. The sum will primarily be dedicated to reducing the energy consumption of the building, adapting the space to our needs, and meeting government regulations for opening parts of the building to the public. Once this renovation work has been completed, the filmmaker-members will set up the various lab spaces and carry out the installation of the machines.

We are in the process of securing the majority of this funding through public institutions.
We will however need to contribute a non-negligible portion of this sum ourselves and have set a goal of raising 500,000€ in the coming months through contributions of individuals, private donors, and foundations.
